This page highlights the design, construction and maintenance techniques utilized to develop the 'RiverCrest Difference'.
  • The lakes are designed to be both functional and picturesque with dramatic waterfalls and littoral shelves that surround the lake edges for the planting of water plants and bull rushes, to create a more natural appearance.
  • The course is designed with the unique concept of contour grassing patterns to create the different textures and shot requirements. Rather that one or two secondary grasses mowed at different heights; there are five different types of grasses planted to create a natural look, with different colors, textures and growing heights, which provides the contrast and separation along and between each hole.

  • Eight acres of lakes and acres of natural terrain along with mature forested woodlands are inter-designed to promote small mammal habitats and nesting areas.

  • The course design utilizes the classic concept of natural terrain design that is augmented with rustic field stone walls; sod wall bunkers and unusual grass entrapments that present an old world appearance.

  • The entire golf course, including fairways and bunkers, contains an extensive drainage system to capture storm water into the lake systems and recharge the local aquifer. This massive underground drainage system, rather than the typical rainfall sheet flow design approach, improves playing conditions and controls the ?moisture content? of the playing surface, which is the culprit of potential diseases.

  • Each green at RiverCrest is constructed with the 'precision air system' which allows forced air to control the moisture and temperature of the underground root complex of each green. RiverCrest is one of only three courses in the Philadelphia area to utilize such a system for all 18 greens.

  • Triple row irrigation system provides the ability to uniformly control the water distribution system that allows each area of the golf course to receive the desired amount of water and prevent the over-growing of the fescue grasses or under watering of the primary roughs which is a typical problem of the less flexible double row system.

  • The irrigation pump house includes a state of the art fertigation and injection system which applies fertilizer and controls the acidy of the water that is pumped onto the entire course.

  • Each bunker is constructed with a material called bunker woll, which is a fabric that is buried into the underground and walls of the bunkers during construction that keeps the faces of the bunkers in place, reduces contamination, resists wash-outs, and improves playability.

  • The golf course utilizes the clear effluent from the tertiary level onsite plant to recharge the lake system that is used for irrigation, which will also reduce the risk from future drought restrictions.

  • All greens are hand mowed to provide the smoothest surface possible and to prevent the typical damage that comes from riding mowers such as oil leaks and turf damage and from heavy machines turning on the typically damp early morning grass.

  • The bunkers also are predominantly hand raked which will help keep the sand at consistent depths and present a high quality look and playability.

  • The course design is walker friendly with a short distances between the green and tee complexes, plus easy access to the green approaches with pedestrian bridges and paths through the native areas.

  • The golf course is designed with full golf car paths that will allow play during marginal weather conditions and help promote the grow-in of the golf course.
